"I was born in Leicester in 1946. I left school at the age of 15 and began a three year Graphics Course at Leicester College of Art, followed by a Post Graduate year.  I moved to London and then followed advice that, based on my drawing skills, I should reorganise my portfolio with a view to becoming a freelance illustrator. One of my early commissions was to produce a picture on a fortnightly basis for the Clement Freud Cookery Column in the Weekend Telegraph Magazine over a two year period.

I moved back to Leicestershire in 1970 with my wife and family and since then have worked from home, with a London based agent.  My first book, RATSMAGIC published in 1976 was awarded the Gold Medal for “Best Illustrated Children’s Book” from The Society of Illustrators, New York. THE TIN FOREST – 2001 won the Borders Original Voices Award USA for best Picture Book and was later filmed, showing details of illustrations from the book, with the story read by Jeff Bridges.

The last thirty years I have been involved with producing over a hundred adults and children books, published and re-published all over the world and in all languages. Some books are based on my ideas, some are created together with a writer, and some are already written and the illustrations are then commissioned by a publisher. I mainly use CS10 board, with coloured pencils, acrylic inks, watercolour paint and pencils.”
