An exhibition of works by Leicester-based artist Rashida Osman is the culmination of Project Illuminate, an arts and culture project exploring the healing power of art, from (but not exclusively) an Islamic perspective. Working in partnership with the Lantern Initiative and Jamila's Legacy, a series of workshops were held in the Leicestershire towns of Oadby and Wigston to provide support and advice about mental health and well-being, and explore various themes through different creative mediums.

"Project Illuminate's aim was to spark conversations, encouraging awareness of anxiety and depression in the community, helping to break down associated stigma."

“My vision was to provide a space to comfortably talk and explore mental health creatively.  Sometimes starting the conversation is the hardest part, but in an environment that felt relaxed and non-pressurised, while being creative.  Having the partner organisations involved, gave opportunities to provide beneficial support and information.”

The exhibition will include co-created works by workshop participants.

The project is funded by Arts Council England and supported by Parables of Light, Jamila’s Legacy, and The Lantern Initiative.

Rashida Osman is a member of LSA.
