Painter and Sculptor

Anne Lindley is an Australian-born, largely self-taught artist who has lived and worked in Britain since the early 1990s. Her artistic journey began at an early age, with her first solo exhibition in Australia at just seventeen.

Working across painting, sculpture and ceramics, Anne has developed a diverse and evolving practice driven by curiosity, experimentation and a fascination with the expressive qualities of different materials.

Her paintings, primarily in oils and cold wax medium, increasingly explore abstraction, focusing on the interplay of colour, texture, atmosphere and form. The natural world, particularly coastal landscapes and the shifting moods of sea and sky, remains a constant source of inspiration.

Alongside her painting, Anne creates abstracted figurative sculptures in bronze, porcelain, stoneware and papier-mâché, exploring form, movement and the unique characteristics of each medium.

Anne has exhibited extensively in Australia and Britain, receiving numerous awards, including the Rockhampton Art Prize, Cloncurry Art Prize, Welland Valley Art Prize (2022), Welland Valley Arts Society Award (2023) and, most recently, Best in Show at the Society's Autumn Exhibition in 2026.

As President of the Welland Valley Arts Society, Anne is committed to encouraging artistic exploration and supporting the creative development of others, while continuing to experiment and discover new directions in her own work.

Anne's artistic philosophy is reflected in her words:

"For me, art is a continuing journey of exploration and discovery. I love the freedom of experimenting with materials, allowing colour, texture and form to lead me somewhere unexpected."
