Realism painter Megan Hunter's work is about capturing not only the likeness of the person being conveyed but also their physical presence and personality.  She wants to paint people in a way that truly reflects them as they see themselves. Portraiture has always played a part in Megan's artistic practice, and over the years, she has developed her skills with every new piece she creates. Working on aluminium has undoubtedly enhanced the development of her artistic practice.

Each piece is created using a six-colour primary palette plus white.  Working in thin layers of oil paint on an aluminium panel, building up each transparent layer of colour to achieve a high level of realism. The smooth surface of the aluminium makes the first pass of paint slick, which she then stipples to give a slight texture, which offers the successive layers of paint something to bind to. The intricate details are added during the final pass of paint in the way of glazes and fine lines.

Megan appeared on BBC East Midlands Today on 17th February 2025 when a video she posted of her portrait 'My Nana' went viral.
