Nikki Grange

Nikki Grange is a photographer and printmaker working from her home studio in Leicestershire and at Leicester Print Workshop. Her interest tends to focus on the historical and natural trace of objects and places. How things; domestic, industrial and environmental, can hold history, memory and meaning. She uses photography and drawing as a starting point for investigating overlooked objects and places, which are then explored through different printmaking techniques. 

Nikki works with etching, photopolymer, collagraph and cyanotypes to create small print editions. Her current Watercourse Series explores the lines and forms of nature as the landscape cycles through the seasons, following the paths of the watercourse around her home. The examples shown here include multi plate prints and chine collé using cyanotypes on Japanese paper. Nikki uses water from the landscape to process photopolymer plates and cyanotypes, and botanicals to tone the cyanotypes - enlisting nature’s agency in both subject matter and process.

Previous work includes the River Soar series; informed by research into the historical role of the river and canal in Leicester, and the factories and communities that grew up around it.

My Father's Things series that grew out of spending time with her father's objects following his death; logging, photographing and making prints from objects he had kept, whilst considering the objects we keep, inherit, treasure and pass on.
