Sally Scott is a designer-maker specialising in contemporary glass. She graduated from De Montfort University with an Honours degree in Design Crafts, specialising in hot glass. After completing her degree, she secured a year-long position as Artist in Residence at the university.

With a background in scientific research and teaching, Sally has taken inspiration from the processes underpinning Molecular Biology to inform her developing glassblowing practice. In 2025, she won the London Glassblowing Prize at New Designers and the Contemporary Glass Society and Glass Sellers’ Graduate Prize, with her work featured in both the New Graduate Review and Neues Glas – New Glass: Art & Architecture. Sally was awarded the Leicester Society of Artists 2026 Student Award and more recently has work selected for the British Glass Biennale, part of the International Festival of Glass taking place at The World of Glass in St Helens, Merseyside.

“Much of my work is based on the wonder to be found in the extraordinary complexity of life. My ideas evolve through investigating cells as the building blocks of all living organisms. By experimenting with line and form and using thermal processes to morph simple shapes, I explore how light and colour interact and play within my glass sculptures.”
— Sally Scott

Sally enjoys combining the inherent jeopardy and immediacy of working with hot glass, which requires real-time responses, with the more considered and meticulous approach of coldworking. Through these contrasting processes, she creates unique pieces that invoke curiosity and interest.
