Surasti Puri is an Indian-Polish designer, artist, and printmaker. She was born in India and spent her formative years in Delhi and Bangalore. An early fascination with textiles and print techniques coupled with an interest in colour and form led her to pursue a degree in graphic design. During this time she worked on large scale mixed media pieces exploring local histories and urban geographies.

In 2016, Surasti completed an MA in Art History from The Courtauld Institute. She specialised in Persian art history, focusing on illustrated manuscripts and autobiographical works in her final dissertation.

Today, she works as a designer whilst continuing to practise as an artist and printmaker. Her artistic practice focuses on memory and mark-making with forms inspired by everyday scenes and landscapes to capture fleeting moments. Drawing attempts to slow down the day and impress a permanence on transient moments of everyday life, constructing spaces for reflection and introspection. Her process is guided by layering and involves erasing marks as much as adding new ones, producing sketches and continuously refining the composition in each iteration. A final piece based on these drawings is recreated slowly and meticulously onto a printing plate or gives shape to more dynamic oil paintings. Deliberate markings and chance textures interplay to inform each piece.
