Angharad R Thorpe is a Leicester-based contemporary artist working predominantly in abstract mixed media. Having studied art and design earlier in life, she returned to painting more recently, rediscovering a rewarding creative outlet.

Her work is expressive, intuitive and richly layered, combining acrylic paint, inks and oil pastels to create textured surfaces. She draws inspiration from weathered architecture, urban environments and the fragmented, imperfect marks and textures found in everyday surroundings. Colour is central to her practice, with compositions ranging from earthy, muted tones to bold and vibrant combinations.

As Angharad explains:

“I enjoy allowing my paintings to evolve organically rather than working towards a predetermined outcome. I add, obscure, scrape back and rework layers, allowing earlier marks to remain visible and become part of the finished piece.”

Her return to painting was also inspired by her father and her family's experience of dementia. This personal connection has led her to support Alzheimer's charities through regular donations from her artwork sales.

Angharad produces original paintings and fine-art prints, with examples of her work displayed in Leicester city centre.
