Mary is a portrait artist and printmaker from Melton Mowbray.  She graduated from Canterbury Christchurch University College in 2002 with a BA in fine art and printmaking.  Art has been a fundamental part of her life for 30 years, as a life class tutor, studio/gallery owner and portrait artist.  

In 2002, Mary was invited to work alongside Martin Ware, a Master Printmaker, inking a series of prints for the British Museum.  Living in New Zealand for seven years, her art was permanently on display at the Farmfield Gallery in Auckland. She returned to the UK in 2017 and continues to work from her home studio.  Keen to bring local artists together, she recently formed the Gaddesby Creatives group, which meets monthly.

In 2019, Mary lost 60% of the sight in her right eye. This has marginally improved and she has risen to the challenges of her sight loss and developed new techniques to work around her disability.

Mary's artistic interests lie in figurative work, whether executed by printmaking, drawing or pastels. Influenced by her tutors and the doctrine of The Slade, likeness is important, also accuracy and problem solving within the complexities of shape, form and light.
